Question by ALG: How to submit a Bill making it mandatory for a high school senior to take a self-defense class?
I know the process of submitting a bill; however, I do not know how to get my idea heard! I believe that every female should take a self-defense class before she graduates, and that it should be a mandatory curriculum. I think this should be universal……..no person should ever be a victim, they should know basic self-defense skills to prevent and get them out of a situation! How can I go about getting these types of classes mandatory? I truly think this type of class could make a difference!

That would be a BULLSH*T class. Would be a waste of money for the school and government to enforce that. If you want to learn…there’s plenty of small places that have self defense classes. All you have to do is pay for it yourself and go on your own time. Either on the weekend or evenings. It’s a good thing it’s not mandatory in schools because it would be a waste of valuable time and it would create even greater financial debt for public schools around the country.

I do not have enough money nor time to take formal karate lessons. Are there any online videos/tutorials/lessons that I will be able to learn from for free? I know that the videos you send me will be as instructional or effective as personal, face-to-face self-defense lessons.

What does it take to classify it as self defense?

Can I hit him if he swings first or does he have to make contact?
If he tries to cheap shot me, can I attack him?
If he lays a hand on someone else, can I defend them?
If I’m attacked in the persons house, does it matter?
When do I have to let up?

You don’t have to answer every question…I just want to know if the situation ever comes around so I dont get into any legal trouble.

being assaulted or have the fear (as seen by a reasonable person) that an assault is immenent or that bodily harm or death may have resulted if no action were taken.

Question by bean crisp: Is this successful claim of self defense on an episode of Gunsmoke legally accurate for the times?
On the episode two brothers catch someone stealing hay from their barn. The thief dares them to try and stop him. The thief then slaps one of the brothers who then goes for his gun, but is out drawn and killed by the thief. The surviving brother goes to Marshall Dillon to report that the thief murdered his brother, but the Marshall tells him that since his brother drew first it was self defense.

I dont know much about martial arts, just a little karate experience. I would like to learn a good submission hold for self defense. I don’t expect to learn it in a few minutes, Im willing to spend hours practicing it.

Did Jesus Christ kill in self defense?

Edit – Christ taught to turn the other cheek and he also said “blessed are the peace makers, for they shall be called the Sons of God”. Now, go ahead and thumb me down for what the bible said, and specifically what Christ said. He didn’t put up a fight when they were crucifying him, now did he? I do believe there are some truly ignorant people here.

We are aware that being a Martial Artist is not an easy thing to fathom the real meaning of Self Defense, everybody has its own understanding and definition. But will it enough to be a part of such world that we can say we are satisfies with such skill and knowledge we have, of course we are expecting that such person we are teaching can easily adopt and use what we taught to them in case he need it.

Yes, I have enough skills to educate others, although there are others out there who are and/or may be better equipped to do so.

I really don’t think that the meaning is something difficult to understand, but I do agree that everybody may have varying ‘absolute’ definitions of Self Defense.

My skills are more than enough to be a part of the world for me, by myself…

I do however, find it incredibly difficult to maintain a positive and engaged atmosphere when I am with people who are not traveled, haven’t been exposed to much, or just plain don’t pay attention to the world around them (maybe the term is naive). It’s very easy to avoid a lot of possible threats (even vehicle collisions) by simply being aware, and I get increasingly annoyed when I am out in the city walking from a late movie, etc. and have to pay enough attention for two or three people, and even tell them to monitor their discussion topics (IE: large sums of money/expensive clothing/jewelry) around unscrupulous types.

Simple awareness from these folks is all that’s needed. Some folks learn it easily, some do not. As sad as some simple concepts may be, it’s just the way of the world and a bit of the ole survival of the fittest.

i live in NYC and there are people who think they can take on other people. if the assaulter put one in a headlock and the victim pressure pointed him in both sides of his neck and tripped him and then kicked him will both be arrested, put in jail, etc? any tips on self defense?

If the guy dies because of your self defense or becomes seriously injured you’ll probably get in trouble too.

Question by : In self defense what would happen if a guy had his testicles squeezed and yanked would it work?
I take a self defense class and many of the girls say if you have the chance to grab and squeeze and yank on the man’s testicles he would be helpless. Do you think this is true? I know it hurts a man…but could a girl really just squeeze his testicles and he would be done for?? What would the guy do you think?
