Not to offend any soccer fans, but I’ve played a fair bit of soccer and watched soccer games on TV, and I find both extremely boring. How did soccer become the world’s most popular sport?

How can I become a better soccer player and prepare for my high school’s try outs?

Question by Mary D: How can I become a better soccer player and prepare for my high school’s try outs?
Hi! I want to try out for my high school’s soccer team this spring. There are three teams–the freshmen team, JV, and Varsity. Because of my age, I would have to make the JV team to be able to play. In other words, I’m not a freshman. I have played soccer for 6 years, so I do have experience. However, I am very out of shape right now and my ball skills aren’t too fabulous. They never have been. My fortes are speed and aggressiveness. I am currently in a league playing for my parish, so I will be fully in shape by November, when we end. What can I do, starting now, to become a better player AND prepare myself for Spring tryouts? Also, what can I do over the winter to stay in shape?
When I say “become a better soccer player,” what I mean is, how can I improve my stamina, speed, and ball skills?

Thanks a bunch!

Question by Chris: How can a soccer goalkeeper keep practicing during the cold winter seasons?
Soccer seasons over for the Fall but I really want some advice to keep on my game and keep getting better in goal. Indoor soccer is out of the question because their season has already started. Also, how can I practice on my own during season outside.

Soccer – What’s the difference between being yellow carded, booked, and cautioned?

Question by j.nahigian: Soccer – What’s the difference between being yellow carded, booked, and cautioned?
In Soccer/Football what’s the difference between being yellow carded, booked by the referee, and cautioned?

Thanks!
Also – what are the repercussions of each of them. Do they all merit a yellow card? Are they just different reasons for yellow carding?

Best answer:

Answer by Verity
There’s no such thing in soccer as being “booked” or “cautioned”, there’s only “yellow card” which is a warning for some minor violation of the rules or “red card” which means you’re out of the game for a major or repeated violation(s) of the rules.

How many soccer balls should I have for practice?

Question by Nick Lado: How many soccer balls should I have for practice?
I am about to start coaching a youth soccer team (U-14). I
need to know how many soccer balls I should have to use during practice.

Best answer:

Answer by Eshlin Vedan
Hi Nick,
It depends on how many players you have and what drills you intend on carrying out. If your practice session is just a kickoff then one ball should be sufficient. If you want to practice free- kick, passing drills etc than more because you will probably have to carry out the drills simultaneously with different people depending on how many players you have.

How can i dribble a soccer ball with out it slowing me down?

Question by SmartyPants: How can i dribble a soccer ball with out it slowing me down?
When i run with a soccer ball, i have to run slow inorder to keep in control of the soccer ball. If i run fast than i don’t have control of the soccer ball. What can i do to be fast and keep control of the soccer ball? What drills might help? What part of my shoe should i hit the ball with when running?

Best answer:

Answer by john t
it depends on the position of the defender, with a defender behind you or beside you, usually you need to stretch it long, dribbling it farther away from you than you usually do, then run after it. i usually hit it with my upper outer part of my toes. look for ronaldhino videos during his prime at barcelona

if the opponent is in front of you, play it short, diagonally behind your marker making him/her backpedal and turn, if your faster than the defender you can still control the ball, watch how wingers play, it’s what they do to get to the sides before crossing the ball

What does it take for soccer players to be eligible to play in professional soccer?

Question by : What does it take for soccer players to be eligible to play in professional soccer?
I want to become a professional soccer player, but don’t know what I have to do in order to become one. I don’t have much soccer experience because my parents never put me in soccer when I was little. I just played once in my sophomore year in the spring and only played for the city, but I have never had a soccer coach or anything like that. So I am not really sure.

You have to be very very very good.
Preferably in a country that values soccer more (like an european country).
Then start working your way up starting in the small leagues, training a lot.

How can I play good soccer during a decisive match and not get nervous?

Question by juanm: How can I play good soccer during a decisive match and not get nervous?
My JV coach is taping an exhibit during practice this friday. And if he sees that I am playing good he will move me up to varsity. I’m good at soccer but pressure can change my varsity place. What can i do so he can move me up and how can i keep pressure off me (nervous). Please help before this friday
I really want that spot. And if it helps I play offense

Best answer:

Answer by LVDVS
nerves are all apart of the game . usually they will be gone once the game starts. just concentrate on how you usually play and dont try to be a hero just to impress your JV coach . you are more likely to get into trouble if it doesn’t come off
