I want to be a cop when I grow up and if someone shots at me what does God think about killing in self-defense. Because I know he says people shouldn’t murder but what does the bible say about killing in self-defense?

Did Jesus Christ kill in self defense?
Edit – Christ taught to turn the other cheek and he also said “blessed are the peace makers, for they shall be called the Sons of God”. Now, go ahead and thumb me down for what the bible said, and specifically what Christ said. He didn’t put up a fight when they were crucifying him, now did he? I do believe there are some truly ignorant people here.

There is nothing wrong in that.
the bible doesnt differentiate… killing is killing which is why I wonder about all the wars based on religion…… how anyone who is involved or supports it suddenly thinks killing human beings is okay….. nope…. killing is killing just as stealing is stealing…. reasons as to why shouldnt matter…. which is why the bible can take a hike!
It’s all for it (unless you want to take Jesus’ “turn the other cheek” ethic literally *snort*). In fact, it’s all for killing in self-OFFENSE, as long as the victim has done something unforgivable like gather sticks on a Sunday.
well if you tried to talk him/her out of killing you, and to no avail, you do not have much choice as to defending yourself. Only a fool would stand directly in a gun mans path and let him/herself be killed. as For Jesus not defending Himself that was His mission, you are not Jesus, and Christ would know you did your best to talk the gunman out of it.
The bible says little or nothing about self-defense. The Old Testament has a lot of slaughter and genocide but it’s not self defense, just extermination of people who are the wrong race or religion.
You’ll have a real short career as a cop if you follow the standards in the bible.
self defense isn’t murder……and i’m pretty sure God would be happy that you put your life on the line to protect others…..what kind of God would punish you for such a selfless act…that would mean the soldiers defending our country and helping the less fortunate will be punished…..And if God would punish for that…..what kind of God would that be…
Oh boy! Sure I’ll take this one. WHATTTTT? No god wants you to allow someone else to beat you or shoot you for protecting the public and standing up for what is right. The bible has gotten translated so many times that its been misinterpreted. All you need to know about the bible is that its a guide to remind us about making logical decisions as we walk through life to uphold any moral values that may still exist in this world. And being a police officer is a very important and respected responsibility that has risks. Respect the laws, the badge and our freedoms. And kill the bad guys when defending yourself!!!
I think there is a difference between killing and murder.
